Garden Club Meeting: Speaker Jim Mumford of Green Scaped Buildings. “Living Walls and Roofs – Purposes and Creation”Jim Mumford is a horticulturist, Certified Landscape Professional, and an accredited Green Roof Professional. Jim found early on that by combining rain water harvesting with home grown food in a closed –circuit ecosystem on walls and roofs would work quite well in urban environments. He has quickly become the go to guy for such systems and serves clients not only locally but nationally (Meredith French for Programs).

Did you know this about the GC Club?
The Projects Committee meeting supports a garden at Grant Elementary. Dave Martocchio, a teacher at Grant has been working for eight years on a project in the canyon behind the school. Volunteers meet the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 to help with this work if anybody is interested (Linda Lawley for Projects)

It's America's Night Out Against Crime!
The "27th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
